This is step 9 of our guide Contracting in the UK.
Timesheets and invoicing is a very straight forward process.
If you are on hourly rate then you will need to keep track of hours worked each day. If you are on a daily rate you simply need to keep a note of which days you have worked.
You then fill in a timesheet either weekly or monthly depending on your billing frequency. The timesheet will then need to be signed by your client.
You then either raise an invoice yourself if you have a limited company or send the timesheet to your umbrella company to do this for you.
After the invoice has been sent to the agency together with the timesheet you should get paid shortly afterwards. Most agencies factor out their invoices so you will get paid before they get paid by the client.
Once you are getting paid you may wish to claim expenses for initally starting your contracting career in addition to any on going expenses.
