This is step 10 of our guide Contracting in the UK.
You will inevitably incur expenses, some of which you can claim back.
There are start up expenses which can be claimed in addition to on going expenses which can be claimed.
If you contract at the same client for month than 24 months then the 24 month expenses rule kicks in and some of your expenses (including travel) will no longer be claimable.
Some umbrella companies have dispensations with HMRC, but note that this does not mean you can claim expenses without receipts that have not actually been incurred.
For more information see our dedicated section on Expenses.
During the contract you might wish to take time off for holidays and at the end of the contract you might be offered the chance to extend (or renew).
